Hello, my name is Corey Vines. I started training Wing Chun with Sifu Allan in 1992. I trained with Sifu for two years before i moved back to WA where i grew up and started my career in construction. After a bit of looking around, i came across another Wing Chun practitioner in the area, so we started to train together. At that time, I started looking at different styles and started training in Boxing and Ju Jitsu. Although I really enjoyed both systems, I wasn’t convinced of their practical application. During my years in WA, I returned to Canberra annually to train Wing Chun with Sifu Allan and catch up with friends.

After a few years of construction, it was time for a change, so I decided to start studying. I started bouncing to pay the bills, but it also helped me gain some valuable experience in the more practical side of martial arts. This lasted for four years, which I believe was when i came to love Wing Chun and realized it was the only style for me. I moved back to Canberra in 2002, and continued training with Sifu for another two years, until the call for money drew me back again to WA.

My training continued through my annual trips to Canberra and I also travelled to Hong Kong with Sifu Allan on a couple of occasions.

Whilst living in WA, I had some friends who came to my house to train, which again gave me some valuable experience in fighting different styles. One mate was 140kg and had been on the NZ national under 21s rugby team. He had also played professionally in the UK, so he had a lot of experience. Another friend was a competing kick boxer in Sydney for several years! Both these guys were amazed at how easily I could control them with Wing Chun.

Now in 2009 I have moved back to Canberra to continue my training with Sifu. My aim is to earn my instructor accreditation so I can start a club with Sifu when I return again to WA in a few years time.
