Born in 1979 in Canberra, Australia, after 12 years of school, I completed an apprenticeship in cabinet making and have worked in this industry for the past 6 years. My father inspired me to learn wingchun as he studied it under Allan Graham for several years. A year after I started classes in 1999 I was preparing for academy's regular trip to Hong Kong, but unfortunately a motorcycle accident changed this plan and left me nursing my broken foot for 2 months instead. It did not discourage my willingness to go and learn from Wan Kam Leung Sifu at least once for 4 weeks every year since 2001. Back in Australia I train 4 to 5 times per week under Allan Graham Sifu. Through intensive training I found that wingchun is not only relevant in combat situations. It has sharpened my mind and reflexes, which helps me to deal with work and life in general. It gives me self-confidence and better control over myself and any situation. I feel that wingchun has become a way of life for me and I have a strong confidence that I will follow it in many years to come. |
