Born in 1989, Canberra, I scarcely had any martial arts experience before joining the Canberra Wing Chun Academy in 2005. Wing Chun was my first choice when looking for a school and after my first lesson I knew it was the right style for me (no messing about practicing fancy, unrealistic combat techniques). The club environment was very laid back and everyone was really down to earth, but when training started, everybody committed 110%. Students should participate in activities with vigour, enthusiasm and satisfaction. Unlike other schools or styles, the classes aren't conducted in a rigid formal manner where the spirit and enthusiasm of the students is suppressed. Studying Wing Chun Kung-Fu under Sifu Allan Graham increased my confidence, strength, flexibility, coordination, and fighting ability as well as teaching me the beauty of the art itself. I now train 5-6 times per week. The academy is a great place to "get away from it all" and it also helps me stay focused in other aspects of my life. I can now look at other activities, even if they are not relevant to martial arts and admire them for the time and effort that they involve. I played basketball for Canberra Grammar and my other interests include music, general fitness, photography and media production. I am currently studying at the Australian National University. It is not enough to aim, you must hit. - (Proverb) |
